 Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was the first President of Kenya when it became an independent republic in the mid 1960's, and he remained in office until his death in August 1978. During that year a series of banknotes was issued, dated 1st July 1978, and quickly withdrawn when he died. We are pleased to offer the 5 and 10 shilling notes from this series in perfect mint condition. In 2004, to commemorate the 40th year of independence the Central Bank of Kenya decided to once again use Jomo Kenyatta's portrait on a new note series, and we complete this set with a modern 100 Shilling note dated 2nd February 2004.
