![]() The Imperial Russian 500 Rouble note dated 1912. These are enormous notes, measuring 273mm x 125mm (almost 11 x 5 inches) and they were the largest denomination in use in Tsarist Russia prior to the Revolution of 1917. The notes have a striking design and are beautifully engraved. The reverse shows a picture of Peter the Great who ruled Russia from the 1680's until his death in 1725. The post-Revolution 1000 Roubles. Issued by the Provisional Government in 1917, shortly after the Russian Revolution, this large (about 210 x 130 mm) note was one of the higher denominations of its day. Due to the confusion and administrative changes which followed the Revolution, it remained in circulation for a relatively short period, and it is now unusual to find it in unused condition. Both of the above notes are offered in aUNC (about uncirculated) condition. Reference: RUSSIA 002 Price: £17.00 for the pair of notes. ![]() In 1917, following the revolution, the provisional central Government in Russia issued a series of three notes - these being for 5, 250 and 1000 Roubles. The 5 Roubles used the same plates as the earlier Tsarist issue dated 1909 but had just series numbers rather than a full serial number. The higher denominations of 250 and 1000 Roubles were of a new design. The notes were quickly replaced in 1918 by a new series of State Treasury notes and were soon withdrawn from circulation. The notes in this set are in VF to good VF condition. Reference: RUSSIA 003 Price: £4.00.
